Loyalty cards in Apple and Google Wallet
Revisit team2 min read
Key takeaways
- iPhones use Apple Wallet and Android phones use Google Wallet.
- There is nothing for you to register, and no developer fee.
- A phone with neither wallet can still open the card as a web card.
Why the wallet and not an app
Most shops will not get customers to install a loyalty app. People keep very few apps, and a card they have to find in one is a card they forget.
The wallet is already on every modern phone. It sits next to the cards people use daily, and it can show a pass on the lock screen. A loyalty card in the wallet needs no download, no sign-in and no password.
What the customer does
- Scan the QR on your counter.
- Tap to add the card to the wallet.
- Show the card, or let staff scan it, at the next visit.
| Phone | Wallet | If it has no wallet |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Apple Wallet | Opens as a web card from its own link |
| Android | Google Wallet | Opens as a web card from its own link |
What you do not have to do
Issuing wallet passes normally means joining Apple's developer program and setting up Google's pass tools. With Revisit your cards are issued on a verified wallet setup from day one. There is nothing to register, and there is no developer fee to pay.
How it fits with the rest
The wallet card is the customer's side. On your side, staff add stamps with the scanner, and you see each stamp and reward in the dashboard.
Do my customers need to download an app?
No. They scan a QR or tap a link and the card goes straight into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, which are already on their phone.
What about customers without Apple Wallet?
Android phones use Google Wallet, iPhones use Apple Wallet. If a phone has neither, the card still works as a web card from its own link.
